The fault line is the place where the earth cracks--where tectonic plates shift or earthquakes happen. We live in an increasingly polarized world where the fault lines open up even in the midst of communities that once were united. In an effort to protect our peace and take a stand for justice, we often shut down and shut out the people on the other side - when that's exactly who we need to reach if we want to make a difference. When a fault line stands between us, it's not about building bridges; it's about diving deep into the cracks themselves to explore why the earth is breaking in the first place.
Songwriter and facilitator Susan Putnins has wrestled with the fault lines that appear in her family history and communities related to Judaism, nationality, and war. Drawing on her personal journey, Susan weaves together songs of fear, anger, hope and love with tools to help attendees explore the fault lines within their own communities. This blended concert and workshop offers passionate, dynamic songs about conflict and reconciliation and an invitation to move from audience to participant, all within a cozy, warm environment. As an audience member, you will be invited into optional solo reflective activities and structured conversations with other attendees, but you can always just enjoy the music. No matter how you choose to engage, this event invites you to reflect on new possibilities for reaching out to those across the fault line to build a more hopeful future together.
